Awards and honours

In November 2023, Sophie was named in INvolve’s Outstanding Top 100 LGBTQ+ Future Leaders Role Model list. The list, supported by YouTube, features LGBTQ+ individuals from around the globe who are making a significant contribution to inclusion for LGBTQ+ people within business.

The LGBTQ+ Journalism Network was commended at the NCTJ Awards for Excellence in March 2023 in the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award.

In December2022, Sophie was a finalist in the Gannett Greatest Awards in the Embracing Diversity & Inclusion category. Sophie was the only-UK based Gannett employee to be nominated for the award, with all other nominees based in the US.

Sophie was awarded the very first Equality and Diversity award at the Newsquest Excellence Awards in June 2022, she was awarded for her work founding the LGBTQ+ Journalism Network.

Sophie was highly commended at the NCTJ Awards for Excellence in March 2022 in the News Journalism category. She was noted for her coverage of a homophobic attack, spiking incident and farming labour shortages.

In November 2021, Sophie won Student of the Year for her NCTJ Diploma studies at City of Wolverhampton College.

In August 2020, Sophie was awarded a full bursary from the Journalism Diversity Fund to complete her NCTJ-accredited diploma course.
